PSHE
Impact
Our PSHE curriculum is designed to support pupils’ personal development by equipping them with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. Through a carefully sequenced and progressive curriculum, we aim to ensure pupils are prepared for the next stage of their education and for life in modern Britain.
- To promote a safe, supportive and inclusive environment in which all pupils and staff feel valued and can thrive.
(Jigsaw: Being Me in My World) - To provide a broad and balanced curriculum that reflects pupils’ diverse backgrounds and needs, ensuring equality of opportunity and inclusion for all.
(Jigsaw: Celebrating Difference) - To develop pupils’ self-esteem, resilience and emotional literacy, enabling them to understand and manage their feelings effectively.
(Jigsaw: Healthy Me; Being Me in My World) - To support pupils in building and maintaining positive, respectful relationships, both now and in the future.
(Jigsaw: Relationships; Celebrating Difference) - To equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to make informed, safe and responsible choices, particularly in relation to their health and wellbeing.
(Jigsaw: Healthy Me) - To prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life, including transition to secondary education and adulthood.
(Jigsaw: Changing Me; Dreams and Goals) - To develop pupils’ understanding of how to manage risk and navigate challenges, enabling them to become confident and responsible citizens.
(Jigsaw: Healthy Me; Being Me in My World) - To foster respect for themselves and others, promoting an understanding of diversity, equality and inclusion within a modern British and global context.
(Jigsaw: Celebrating Difference; Relationships) - To develop pupils’ awareness of moral, social and cultural values within a Christian ethos, while promoting respect for different beliefs and ways of life.
(Jigsaw: Celebrating Difference; Being Me in My World) - To work in partnership with parents, carers and the wider community to support pupils’ wellbeing and personal development.

Implementation
Our approach to PSHE consists of a comprehensive and developmental programme of teaching and learning, where the health and wellbeing of children and of the whole school community are actively promoted. Our progressive PSHE/Personal Development Programme has a positive influence on the ethos, learning and relationships throughout the school. It is central to our values and to achieving our school’s aims and objectives.
Throughout all PSHE experiences there is a safe and supportive learning environment where pupils can develop the confidence to ask questions, challenge the information they are offered, draw on their own experience, express their views and opinions and put what they have learned into practice in their own lives.
When developing planning and teaching PSHE, we use the Jigsaw PSHE scheme of learning, a comprehensive and progressive programme that supports a whole-school approach to emotional literacy, mental health, wellbeing, and personal development. Jigsaw is designed as a spiral curriculum, with key themes revisited and built upon each year to deepen pupils’ understanding. Teachers adapt Jigsaw lessons to meet the specific needs of the children they teach, ensuring learning is inclusive, relevant and responsive.
Our PSHE programme includes teaching and learning through the following Jigsaw themes:
- Being Me in My World
- Celebrating Difference (including anti-bullying)
- Dreams and Goals
- Healthy Me
- Relationships
- Changing Me
These themes support children in developing emotional awareness, building positive relationships, understanding their place in the wider world, and managing change effectively.
Impact
Our PSHE/Personal Development programme is designed to equip pupils with the knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives, both now and in the future, as individuals and as active members of society. Through a carefully sequenced and progressive curriculum, underpinned by the Jigsaw approach, pupils develop emotional literacy, resilience and the ability to form positive relationships. The programme is embedded within the wider curriculum and school ethos, ensuring that all pupils experience a supportive environment where they feel safe, valued and respected. Strong relationships between pupils and adults are prioritised, and effective systems are in place to identify and support those who may be vulnerable. Pupils are encouraged to engage in a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond the curriculum, enabling them to contribute positively to the life of the school and the wider community, and to develop the confidence and skills needed for their next stage of education.
